Crisis, catastrophe, change...
There are a lot of things in our lives that feel like crises, and more than a few of them actually may be crises. That is, they're situations that represent a threat to our self, our family, our future. We often make jokes about "existential crises," but feeling like your life lacks purpose or that you're somehow living wrong isn't especially funny.
We aren't therapists or philanthropists or any other useful "ists" when it comes to people in crisis. So we offer the following advice:
- If you're having a serious crisis where your life or your family could be at risk, get help from real people around you. If you're considering harming yourself or others, don't wait--call 911 or a counselor now. Problems, struggles, mental health issues...they're real things not to be taken lightly. We're people on a website, not people right there who can help you. There are also plenty of useful resources filled with useful professionals you can consult. A few examples include:
- If your crisis is more existential in nature, then you're in a useful place. We've had our share of crises, and something we've come up with on a page or a post might give you a moment's thought or point you in a useful direction. No matter where your inspiration comes from, you're the one who has to head off in that new direction. You have to do the work, make the life change, work up the courage to do the hard thing. We (and anyone else you consult) are just a push. If you want things to change for the better, you're the one who has to change them.
You're welcome to email us through our Contact page, but again, we're not crisis counselors or therapists...so if you need tangible help in your real world, find someone nearby!
